Trailer-Friendly Driving Directions

Read the details even if you're using GPS.

GPS coordinates (Google maps): 30.157168, -98.134264 for 231 Prochnow Road (CR 19 f5).

If you are coming in at night, you will see a cellular tower a mile away. It is right in front of our driveway. If you are heading south on Hwy 281, do not take a back road method that includes Hamilton Pool Road. It is not accessible with a trailer over 30 feet long. Take Hwy 290 heading east toward Austin. If you're coming in via Hwy 290, do not take the Holder Lane exit.

Large Trailers: use FR 165 off Hwy 290

If you are pulling a large trailer (over 35'), and coming in on Hwy 290, take the Farm Road 165 west of Dripping Springs. Set your GPS to CTX Field of Dreams, a baseball facility. Then follow directions to 231 Prochow Road. This will bypass Dripping Springs, if heading toward Austin. From 165, you will turn onto Creek Road, then right on Pursley, and then left on Prochnow Road. That will allow the larger rig about three feet more turning radius into our driveway in front of the cellular tower. If you miss the 165 turn, stay on 290 heading east, and drive into Dripping Springs. This route also bypasses Dripping Springs traffic.

Driving directions from Austin on Hwy 290W:

  1. Head south on Mopac (Loop 1) following the signs to Johnson City.
  2. Mopac will end at the Y in Oak Hill and feed into Hwy 290W. This is also the intersection of Hwy 71. From the Y, go 13 miles to Dripping Springs, passing through Cedar Valley.
  3. Continue straight through the traffic light at RR12 about a mile, passing the Baptist Church on the left. Turn left on Creek Road. Pioneer Bank is on the corner.
  4. Cross a new two-lane bridge over Onion Creek.
  5. When you come to a fork in the road, go left. The other side crosses Onion Creek again. Do not cross it again.
  6. The road has now changed names, although it looks like the same road. It is now Mt. Gainor.
  7. Go 2.2 more miles. About one mile from your next turn.
  8. Turn left on Prochnow Road (CR 195). There is a cellular tower across the street from the driveway which you can see at night.
  9. It is the third house on the left. You can’t see the house from the road, but you will see the sign.
  10. Once in the driveway, stay straight to go to the barn.
  11. Trucks with trailers need to turn around in the pasture and must go through the double pasture gates.
  12. Please shut the gates behind you.

Driving directions from San Marcos on RR 12:

  1. From San Marcos, take RR 12 heading north 9.4 miles.
  2. Turn left on Gatlin Creek Road (191). This entrance is right after the road widens in front of the Storm Ranch. Take road 4.5 miles until it ends (at the rear entrance to Storm Ranch).
  3. Turn right on Mt. Gaynor and take it down the hill until it ends (276 feet).
  4. Turn right on Mt. Gainor and go 1 mile.
  5. Turn left on Prochnow Road. You will be able to see our red barn (on left) and the cellular tower.
  6. We are the third house on the left (231 Prochnow).

From San Antonio or Johnson City on Hwy 281 to Hwy 290E:

Google Maps will give you other routes, but they are more difficult to handle in a trailer, and the one from the north is impossible if the trailer is too long. The route below is the easiest method. Once you are on 290, do not Holder Lane. There will be a water crossing onto Creek Road that is too tight with a trailer. Take FR 165 if driving a large rig: see directions above.

  1. These directions assume you are on Hwy 281 going either direction.
  2. Take Hwy 290 toward Austin and Dripping Springs about 20 miles.
  3. You will pass a large gas station on the right.
  4. Turn right on Roger Hanks Parkway, the next street. There is a large metal entrance sign spanning the road and a planter in median.
  5. Continue down Roger Hanks Parkway until it merges with Creek Road. Stay straight.
  6. Cross Onion Creek on the one lane bridge and follow the directions from Austin above.

If you miss either Roger Hanks Parkway (from San Antonio) or Creek Road (from Austin), continue on Hwy 290 and take the other street.
